Manchester City FC interested in NYCFC Goalkeeper Josh Saunders
It was reported that English Premier Club Manchester City are now eying the goalkeeper from Major League Soccer sibling club NYCFC.
Josh Saunders, 34 has played for Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers, LA Galaxy and also short stints in San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake.
In 2014 he joined MLS expansion team New York City FC, where he was considered one of the few promising players of NYCFC’s Major League Soccer inaugural season that was a bit of a struggle.
NYCFC finished eighth and failed to reach the playoffs, despite one of the highest payrolls in the MLS and a star-studded squad that included David Villa, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and more.
The Club recently fired its’ Head Coach Jason Kreis and appointed instead Patrick Vieira who coached and managed Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad.
Still, Sounders led the league this MLS season with 123 saves, and an impressive 65.4% save rate.
Manchester City FC are bringing Josh Saunders to Manchester’s Etihad for a month, to test the goalkeeper’s skill and compatibility.
It is estimated that Saunders could be offered the role of a backup to starting England National Team and Manchester City’s goalkeeper Joe Heart, who suffered a hamstring injury last week.
