If there was doubt about Barcelona FC being the undisputed monarch of world soccer, tonight was the proof that the Spanish Champion’s rein is far from over. Lionel Messi and his teammates started with an advantage early in the game, with Ivan Rakitic scoring a goal for Barcelona (4’).
Alvaro Morata equalized for Juventus early in the 2nd half (55’), but a goal by Luis Suarez (68’) reclaimed Barcelona’s lead. Neymar Jr. sealed the deal with his late goal in overtime (97’), with Barcelona finishing the game with a 3 – 1 victory.
The Catalans dominated the match during the 1st half, with Juventus staying in the game thanks to goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon’s saves of shots from Dani Alves (13) and Luis Suarez (48’).
Another Goal by Neymar was disqualified due to a hand ball (70’).
Although having less reasons to celebrate tonight, this was still the season in which Juventus returned to become a powerhouse in European soccer. After troubled years that included losses, scandals and relegations, Juventus finished tonight the 2014/15 season in a heartbreak. This is the 4th consecutive Champions League appearance in which the Italian club loses, and the 6th appearance overall.

IF there was one player to whom the loss was especially devastating, it is Andrea Pirlo, who was caught shedding a tear tonight. Pirlo is set to join his former Juventus teammate Sebastian Giovinco (now playing for Toronto FC) in the United States Major Soccer League, where he is rumoured to join New York City Football Club as the club’s 3rd Designated Player.
