Patrick Vieira, Ex Arsenal, Juventus and Manchester City Midfielder is NYFCF’s New Boss
Following a disappointing inaugural MLS season, and upon failing to reach the Major League Soccer 2015 Playoffs, expansion team NYCFC has let go of its Head Coach Jason Kreis and announced new replacement coming from older-sibling club Manchester City FC.
39 year-old Vieira who is now serving as Head Coach for Manchester City’s Under-21s is leaving his role to join Major League Soccer and undertake his first job as manager of a first team. He signed a three-year contract with New York City FC, which like Manchester City FC is part of the City Football Group that is owned by Sheik Mansour.
“I am delighted to take the role of Head Coach for MLS New York City FC” said Vieira, “Major League Soccer is an exciting prospect for any coach.” He will take up the role on January 1st, 2016.
A highly-decorated soccer player, Patrick Vieira won with the 1998 World Cup with the French National team. He also won seven major honours with Arsenal when playing there between 1996 and 2005. Vieira then transferred to win with Juventus the Seria A title in 2006, moving on to Inter Milan to win domestic awards while playing with them between 2006 and 2010.
Vieira then moved to Manchester City and played between 2010 and 2011 and helped the club win the FA Cup, but remained involved with the club after officially hanging his boots in 2011.
Although many of the transfer windows for Major League Soccer will be concluded prior to his arrival, Vieira will arrive at NYCFC in time to commence preparations for the 2016 MLS preseason.
