The MLS 2015 season has so far been exciting to watch, packed with drama, action and probably some of the best soccer in the world. Still, there are many other leagues, teams and players around the world from which we can learn and get inspiration. The summer friendlies in the U.S. present an opportunity to watch world-class soccer, both of giant international clubs playing against each other, as well as international clubs coming to meet Major League Soccer sides.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) is going to be one of those exciting meetings, with MLS side Philadelphia Union hosting English side AFC Bournemouth.
Beyond exciting soccer, there is a great story behind the visitors, whom have just won the Championships League (England’s second division) this year, and have now been promoted to the English Premier League for the 2015-16 season. This is AFC Bournemouth’s first time in the Premier League, and it is somewhat of a Cinderella story, after the club has been a bottom dweller for most of its years in England’s lower divisions, and on the brink of financial collapse also.
The hosts Philadelphia Union are also an inspiring tale lately, having been at the bottom of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference table at the start of this season, and through will power and determination winning games and clawing its way up into 7th, and hopefully soon to the playoffs.
Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz said: “What an amazing story AFC Bournemouth is and we are truly excited to welcome a club that has overcome such long odds to achieve a great amount of success…Bournemouth epitomizes what hard work and dedication can accomplish”.
Make sure you do not miss this epic tale of soccer, as well as a great match between two inspiring sides.
