Sporting Kansas City vs. San Jose Earthquakes – Game Preview
August 19, 2015
Besides having the home advantage, hosts Sporting Kansas City is coming to the match as tonight’s favourites. Kansas is ranked 3rd in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference with 40 points (11-4-7), just 3 points behind leaders LA Galaxy. Visitors San Jose Earthquakes are ranked 7th in the MLS Western Conference with 29 points (8-10-5). Both teams will meet tonight at Sporting Park, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
Kansas are now on a 6-game winning streak, and have stunned last Saturday the Vancouver Whitecaps who have comfortably led 3-1 up to the 80th minute; when Sporting KC then went on to score 3 goals in the final 10 minutes+added time and snatch a 4-1 win. This made Kansas the second team in MLS history to overcome a 2-goal lead after the 80th minute. Although not as dramatic, but San Jose also won their last game against Colorado Rapids (1-0).
San Jose Earthquakes do not seem likely to topple Sporting Kansas City’s 6-game winning streak tonight. Although the top scorer in this MLS season from these two teams is Quakes’ Chris Wondolowski, Kansas City has the safety in numbers with its lethal triple 8 – Krisztian Nemeth, Dominic Dwyer and Benny Feilhaber, scoring 8 goals each this season.
