Sporting Kansas City really could not have wished for a better opener for their 2020 MLS season, coming off the back of a shaky 2019 where they didn’t get a ticket to the MLS Playoffs for a first time in eight years.  So this road win against a Western Conference rival sure gave Kansas the momentum they are looking for.

Sadly for the hosts, Vancouver didn’t look too different in their opening match from just another day in the office in the 2019 MLS season.  A hesitant start gave Sporting’s new signup Alan Pulido the opportunity to score his debut in the team (17’), but even through Whitecaps Jake Nerwinski did equal in the first half still (28’), this night all belonged to Kansas.

Sporting KC’s other newcomer Gadi Kinda also scored his debut for the club with a fantastic strike into the left-top corner (39’).  And if that wasn’t enough for the Whitecaps and their fans at home, ex-Vancouver Erik Hurtabo added for Kansas an insurance goal at second half added time (90+5’).

Sporting Kansas City are facing the Huston Dynamos next Saturday on March 7th, and on the same day Vancouver Whitecaps will host LA Galaxy.
