D.C. United vs. New England Revolution – Playoff Game Preview

With the 2015 Major League Soccer regular season coming to a close this past weekend, the MLS 2015 playoffs are upon us, with even more excitement and drama that American Soccer keeps delivering to us all.
The First round of MLS Playoffs begins tonight, with two teams from Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference facing each other for a spot in the MLS Playoff Semifinals that will commence this coming Sunday.
Hosts D.C. United started a strong MLS regular season, but hit hard times on the last bend. United registered two league losses in September (2-1 to Columbus Crew at home, and 2-0 at Montreal Impact).
October seemed to start better for D.C. with two home wins (2-1 over NYCFC and 4-0 over Chicago Fire), but on their last game of the MLS regular season, D.C. United was destroyed at Columbus Crew SC with a 5-0 loss.
Still, D.C. United managed to finish at fourth place in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference (15-13-6), but are tied at 51 points with fourth-placed Montreal Impact.
Visitors New England Revolution had an impressive start in September (3-0 at home over Orlando City SC, 3-1 away at Toronto FC, 2-1 at home against rivals New York Red Bulls), but ended the month with a 3-0 loss at Montreal Impact and a home 1-1 draw against struggling MLS East side Philadelphia Union.
New England then proceeded to October, losing to yet-another basement tenant of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, with a 3-0 at Chicago Fire, onto to a 1-0 home loss to Montreal Impact. However, winning the last game of the MLS regular season with a 3-1 win at NYCFC’s Yankee Stadium.
New England Revolution is ranked fifth in Major League Soccer’s East with 50 points (14-12-6).
The teams met twice during the 2015 regular MLS season, ending with a 1-1 draw at New England on May 23rd, followed by 2-1 home win for D.C. United in June 13th.
