Early in the match, it seemed that New England will have the first advantage when the Revs’ Jermaine Jones scored a goal from Chris Tierney’s free kick (10’). However Jones was ruled offside and the goal disqualified.
A minute later, Montreal’s Didier Drogba picked up a ball in New England’s box, yet shot it from close range straight to the hosts’ keeper Bobby Shuttleworth (11’).
Both sides seemed determined and created many opportunities, where the first and only conversion came through in the 55th minute, when Impact’s Ignacio Piatti picked up the ball in the final third, makes a run pass New England’s defense and arches a ball from outside the box into the right corner (55’).
