Orlando City SC 2 – 1 New York City FC – Game Preview

Hosts Orlando City live another day to fight for the MLS 2015 Playoffs, while visitors New York City FC leave with yet another disappointing result to their inaugural Major League Soccer season.

The hosts came up strong with fierce attacks on the visitors’ side right from the get go.  The visitors however, showed very little in terms of counter attacking and creating chances.

If it wasn’t for NYCFC’s keeper Josh Saunders that came up with several impressive saves on the first half, Orlando would have probably been leaving to half time with an advantage.

However, it was actually New York that scored the first goal of the match.  With NYCFC’s Mix Diskerud taking a corner shot that was blocked, the ball was blocked by Orlando’s defender in the box and deflected to New York’s Kwame Watson-Siriboe.

The defender took a powerful shot from 14 yards to the left, putting the visitors in the lead just before half time (45’+2’).

Orlando City 0 – 1 NYCFC

Orlando City kept on attacking on the second half as well, with Corey Ash sending a ball across from the left, to find Cyle Larin with who headed in the equalizer to the left of Saunders whose dive came short of a save (62’).

Orlando City 1 – 1 NYCFC

The hosts doubled their lead less than ten minutes later, with Orlando’s Adrian Winter going for a dual inside New York’s box with Josh Saunders, who came out to block Winter’s shot.  The ball then bounced back to Winter, who skilfully shot across to the left, finding Cyle Larin who gently tapped the ball into an empty goal (70’).

Orlando City 2 – 1 NYCFC

With their Major League Soccer Playoff hopes still alive, Orlando will travel to Philadelphia Union for the last game of the regular MLS season on Sunday, Oct. 25th.  NYCFC will wrap up their MLS season when hosting New England Revolution on the same day.
