Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas – Game Recap

Prior to this first leg of Major League Soccer Western Conference Final, there was a lot of anticipation for a battle between the youthful and fit players of FC Dallas, vs. Portland Timbers’ seasoned veteran squad.

Last night it was the soccer experience that prevailed.

Starting with Portland’s defender Liam Ridgewell who scored from close range after Darlington Negbe headed a corner ball into the goal box.  Ridgewell gave Portland an early lead (23’).

Portland Timbers 1 – 0 FC Dallas

Portland then doubled its lead shortly after halftime, with Dairon Asprilla curling a ball with laser precision from the far right into the top-left corner of Dallas’s goal (53’).

Portland Timbers 2 – 0 FC Dallas

Dallas did manage to reply with their one and only goal of the match, with David Texeria receiving a ball from Je-Vaughn Watson and tapping it in from close range (62’).

This important away-goal may be proven as a life saver next week in the second leg.

Portland Timbers 2 – 1 FC Dallas

However a 2-1 victory did not seem to satisfy the Timbers, and Nat Borchers managed to convert a ball from a corner kick at stoppage time to add yet another point to the Timbers’ aggregate (90’+1’).

Portland Timbers 3 – 1 FC Dallas

FC Dallas did not seem to recover from the blasting opening the Portland Timbers brought to the game.  Dallas did regain some form after halftime, but it was too-little-too-late.

Portland will travel to FC Dallas next Sunday, November 29th 5:00 p.m. ET for the second leg of the MLS Western Conference Final.
