Columbus Crew begun with an early lead, with Justin Meram impressively starting an attack, passing five Red-Bull players and getting into the box to put the Crew on an early advantage (9’).

The hosts replied shortly thereafter, with New York’s Mike Grella taking a shot at goal that was saved by Columbus keeper Steve Cark. However, Red Bull’s Sacha Kljestan found the ball and shot across to Lloyd Sam, who scored the equalizer (12’).

The last goal of the match also came relatively early into the night, with New York’s Connor Lade serving a ball from the outside left of the center of the box, for Bradly Wright-Phillips to head in the winner (21’).

Both teams were on the attack on the second half, New York trying to find the insurance goal and Columbus in an attempt to equalize, but to no avail.
The game was pretty balanced, with possession being nearly equal. New York produced 13 shots, of which 7 were on target; and Columbus slightly less accurate, with 12 shots, and 5 on target.
