Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls – Game Preview

Hosts Toronto FC are ranked fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference, with 46 points (31-14-13).  With either a win or a draw, Toronto can secure an MLS playoff spot in the first time in the club’s history.

Toronto FC are coming on a three-game home winning streak, scoring 3 points in each match.  With a 3-1 home win over Colorado Rapids, 3-2 over Chicago fire, and finally a 3-1 win over Philadelphia Union on Saturday, Oct. 3rd.

Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco has scored 31 goals this season, and is second in the League’s Golden Boot ranking to MLS leading scorer, Columbus Crew’s Kai Kamara. Followed by Jozy Altidore with 12 goals this season and Captain Michael Bradley with 5.

Visitors New York Red Bulls were the first club to secure a playoff position this Major League Soccer season.  Sitting at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference, the Red Bulls are leading the league with 54 points (31-16-9).  A win or draw over Toronto will secure for New York the top seed in the conference.

The Red Bulls are coming on the back of two wins, both at home with a 2-1 over Montreal Impact, followed by another 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC.

New York’s top scorer is Bradley Wright-Phillips with 15 goals this season, followed by Lloyd Sam with 10, and Mike Grella and Sacha Kljestan with 7 goals each.

The teams are meeting for the second time this season, with the previous match at Red Bull Arena on August 15th ending with a 3-0 victory to the hosts.  Bradley Wright-Phillips, Anthony Wallace and Gonzalo Veron scored for New York.
