Philadelphia Union did play a good game on Saturday, but Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco had plans of his own for the night…

Host Toronto are coming to this game from a fantastic MLS Goals spectacle against New York City FC (4-4), and are now ranked 4th in the Major League Eastern Conference with 27 points (8-7-3).
Although ranked 7th in the MLS Eastern Conference, visitor Philadelphia Union is trailing only 5 points behind with 22 (6-11-4). Prior to these match, the two teams were only separated by 2 points.
Toronto’s goalkeeper Chris Konopka was suspended due to a harsh foul on NYCFC’s Andori Iraola in the last Major League Soccer match. He was substituted by Joe Bendik. Captain Michael Bradley was also absent due to International duty with the US Men’s team (Gold Cup).
On the other end, Philadelphia’s Captain Maurice Edu was suspended for yellow-card accumulation.
However, even though Toronto’s keeper Konopka and key playmaker Bradley were absent, Toronto’s Atomic Ant Sebastian Giovinco was still playing.
At first both MLS teams appeared to be finding their form, and not really reaching any chances, probably due to the absence of key players on both sides.
That did not take long, as Giovinco soon started to create mayhem in the opposition’s defense, and assisted teammate Marky Delgado to score the first MLS Goal of the game (29’), and his second in 2 consecutive matches.

No more than 3 minutes later, Sebastian Giovinco himself scored the 2nd goal (31’) around 6-yard line, while first missing but then positioning himself behind the Union’s defense to score the ball the bounced from the save. Giovinco now has 12 MLS Goals and 9 assists.

Philadelphia did try to create chances and equalize, but without success. Until stoppage time, when Union Substitute Conor Casey got possession of the ball at top of the box, and with an impressive movement was able to deflect several Toronto defenders and shoot the ball to the bottom left corner, scoring Philadelphia’s 1st and only goal of the match (90’+1’).

Although a good match and impressive performance from both MLS sides, Toronto’s designated-player Sebastian Giovinco seems to be the deciding factor yet again.
