Game Recap – Toronto FC vs. Orlando City FC

August 22, 2015

A pretty amazing night at BMO Stadium in Toronto.  A night that Jozy Altidore will probably want to remember, and everyone from Orlando is going to try real hard to forget.

Although hosts Toronto came into this game as favourites, the first half went relatively quiet and uneventful.  Michael Bradley did not manage to create too many plays past Orlando’s defense, Sebastian Giovinco created few opportunities and did not seem to find his form, and Jozy Altidore was not even in the starting lineup.

Towards the end of the second half, Orlando’s Rafael Ramos was shown a red card and sent off for a serious foul on Toronto’s defender Justin Morrow (36’).  It all went downhill from there for Orlando, but probably even Kaka didn’t imagine before halftime how slippery this slope will be…

It took no more than a minute into the second half for Michael Bradley to launch an attack from the left, and find Marco Delgado in the center of box, who in turn finishes with the first goal of the match (46’).

Toronto FC 1 – 0 Orlando City FC

Shortly thereafter, Sebastian Giovinco takes a free kick from the left top of the box, and curls the ball beautifully into the top right corner (57’).

Toronto FC 2 – 0 Orlando City FC

Toronto kept on with their mission of destroying Orlando City, with Michael Bradley being assisted by Sebastian Giovinco sends another ball into the center of the box from the deep left.  This time, to find Justin Morrow and close range, to finish with another goal (71’).

Toronto FC 3 – 0 Orlando City FC

Things just kept going from bad to worse for the visitors from Orlando, when Adrian Winter, who already had one yellow card tripped Toronto’s Robbie Findley inside the box.  Winter was show the second yellow card and sent off (82’), leaving Orlando with just 9 men on the pitch.

Jozy Altidore, who just came on ten minutes earlier converted the penalty kick to a goal (83’).

Toronto FC 4 – 0 Orlando City FC

Altidore was just getting started, as Michael Bradley sends a ball to the back post from the field, Robbie Findley then sends it across in Jozy Altidore’s path, who in turns sends a header into the back of the net.

Toronto FC 5 – 0 Orlando City FC

A great night for Toronto FC, and although Orlando City FC had done great things in its first season in Major League Soccer, this night should hopefully not be repeated any time soon.
