San Jose Earthquakes vs. Sporting Kansas City – Game Recap
Although still playing the last games if Major League Soccer’s regular 2015 season, the quality of soccer, and fighting spirits on all side seem as exciting as the playoffs already.
Another fantastic display of soccer from both sides last night, with fierce attacking, hard work and mostly skillful sending and goalkeeping, ended up with San Jose Earthquakes still having a distant shot at the 2015 MLS playoffs.
The Quakes attacked last night all throughout the first half, and created numerous chances. All however, denied time and again by the great effort of Sporting’s keeper Tim Melia.
San Jose’s keeper David Bingham also made a few critical saves throughout the night, notably making a right-foot save to deny Kansas’s Dom Dwyer’s shot on the ninth minute.
The Quakes came back from half time determined to capitalize on their form, and escalated pressure even further on the second half. A combined effort and skilful play awarded San Jose for their efforts straight into the second half.
San Jose’s Shea Salinas crossed from the right to Chris Wondolowski that was not at the right position, hence passing the ball back to Panamanian midfielder Anibal Godoy. Godoy the scored the match’s only goal (47’).

Visitors Kansas City did try to retaliate, and also created opportunities on the second half, none of which converted into goals.
Accordingly, the Quakes are now tied at fifth place with 47 points with Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers around the red line of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference table.
As both Seattle and Portland still have two season games remaining, compared to San Jose’s one, the quakes playoff faith now relies on the upcoming performance of these two contenders.
