LA Galaxy vs. Montreal Impact

Although expectations were high for this first MLS meeting between former English Premier League stars Steven Gerrard and Didier Drogba, the match ended up with no goals.

Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts delivered two impressive saves in the first half, and Robbie Keane nearly scored about half an hour into the match, but with no result.

Montreal started strong and nearly scored twice in the first half, and did create opportunities towards the end of the match, but Galaxy seemed to have dominate with a 58% possession throughout.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Seattle Sounders

Perhaps it was the absence of Seattle’s Head Coach Sigi Schmid, who remained in Seattle due to poor health, but the most of the match between these two teams that are usually known for playing tight soccer, seemed to be disorganized.

Sporadic chances were created throughout the first half, as expected by Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins for Seattle, and Chris Wondolowski in reply for San Jose.  But no side managed to capitalize until much later in the second half.

The first goal of the night came after a free kick from Quakes’ Matias Perez Garcia from the left of Seattle’s box.  The ball shot across where Fatai Alashe to head in a goal (70’).

San Jose Earthquakes 1 – 0 Seattle Sounders

Another free kick, this time for Seattle Sounders from left of the box was taken and then headed towards the goal by Seattle’s Zach Scott.

San Jose’s keeper David Bingham’s save deflected towards Obafemi Martins, who scored with a back kick the equalizers (82’).

San Jose Earthquakes 1 – 1 Seattle Sounders

San Jose will host Montreal Impact this Wednesday, and Seattle Sounders visit Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday.
