Toronto FC vs. Philadelphia Union – Game Preview

Saturday, October 3rd, BMO Field, Toronto. 5:00 p.m. ET

Hosts Toronto FC are going strong, after mixed results in September, opening the month with two losses (3-1 at home to New England Revolution, and 2-0 at NYCFC); yet then recovering with two impressive home wins (3-1 and 3-2 against Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire respectively).

Toronto are ranked fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference with 43 points (13-13-4), with Atomic Ant Sebastian Giovinco making MLS history with 20 goals and 15 assists in one season.  The Italian, who is also the highest-paid player in MLS, as well as the highest-paid Italian soccer player in all leagues, is expected to spearhead the attack again with fellow-forward Jozy Altidore and midfielder/playmaker Michael Bradley.

Visitors Philadelphia Union are also coming on the back of mixed, although impressive results in September.  Starting with a 2-1 loss at home to Columbus Crew, on to a 2-0 home victory Over Houston Dynamos, and then a 1-1 tie at New England Revolution.  This, leading to another impressive 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City this past Wednesday at the US Open Cup Final, although the Union eventually lost on penalties.

Philadelphia Union is ranked ninth in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference with 34 points (9-15-7).

The teams are meeting for the third time this season, with Toronto winning both matches 2-1 and 1-0 in July and May respectively.
