San Jose Earthquakes vs. Seattle Sounders – Game Preview

A dramatic night expected in this MLS Western Conference match, with dramatic consequences for both sides, as far as the playoffs are concerned.

Hosts San Jose Earthquakes are ranked seventh in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference (11-11-5) with 38 points.  The Quakes are just under the red line, with three teams tied above them for a playoff position.

San Jose’s recent 1-2 loss at home to Philadelphia Union put an end to a 4-game winning run, in which the Earthquakes also kept a clean sheet and haven’t conceded any goals.

Visitors Seattle Sounders are ranked fourth in MLS West (13-13-2) and are tied at 41 points with Sporting Kansas City and Portland Timbers that playoff position, just above San Jose.

Seattle’s recent 2-1 home win over Toronto FC is the Sounders’ second consecutive win.

The teams are meeting for the third time this MLS season, with the previous two matches resulting in San Jose Earthquakes winning in Seattle.  The Quakes won 3-2 and 2-0 in March and June respectively.
